This day an age our choices are nearly endless.  In American even with the COVID-19 pandemic raging on we have access to a multitude of products.  It is the joy of living in a capitalist society where we have more options than we need.  In some cases we have more options than ever thought imaginable.  So it does befuddle me when people who have just had an ostomy or have even been living with a stoma for years complain about their fashion choices.

Today we have unlimited options to still be fashionable even carrying an ostomy bag around every day.  If you get the correct ostomy care products you are able to dress in fairly slim and even tight fitting clothing as long as its tight in the correct places. Now I will admit body style does play into this because we are all indeed different. I would like to point out that if you do take the time to shop around and ask people who seem to be dressing normal and have an ostomy where do they get their ostomy care clothing.

Never be afraid to ask questions.  That is the biggest fear of people who are new to having a stoma.  They do not ask enough questions or they ask the wrong person once and decide to never ask again. I would have to say be brave and be fearless and you will find yourself looking better than ever. So where do you start?  Start by going online. You can be so much more brave and even hide online. Didn’t I just say not to do that? Yes, but I know the feelings that come with asking about these hard questions if you are an introvert. So start on the forums and ask about different styles of clothing and where people got them. 

Now that you have gone online and maybe even found some good online friends to bounce clothing ideas off of. Look to find more local friends.  It is easy to actually find friends with more online aps these days.  It is a way to go ahead and be more fashion forward. One step at a time and start slow.  Start by learning online and then move along to meeting more people who are apt to dress the same as you or that you want to. Remember you may carry a bag around now, but that is the only difference between you and fashion and trust me, its not a hinderence.  So be brave, be beautiful and most of all be you.
